Configuration
The amphibious configuration is the most adaptable

IDINTOS is a project co-financed by Regional Government of Tuscany (Italy) aiming at making a prototype of PrandtlPlane® innovative ultralight amphibious airplane. The partnership is coordinated by the Aerospace Division of the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering (DICI) of University of Pisa (Italy) and it includes several University departments and enterprise. An additional objective of IDINTOS project is the build a technologic pole for aeronautics in Tuscany.

The amphibious configuration is the most adaptable both for sport and for security and surveillance applications. The most evident characteristics are: the PrandtlPlane multi-wing system design (box-like), the engine located inside the fuselage just rear the pilot cabin, the propulsion system made by two variable pitch ducted fans located at the fuselage side, the unconventional control surfaces on both wings, the patented innovative retractable undercarriage, the stabilizing floating sponsons at the tip of the front wing, innovative dashboard with digital instrumentation. The prototype is made all of composites material.

The wing planform has been optimized by aerodynamic analyses and the control surfaces (elevators, ailerons, flaps) have been sized for all the flight segments (cruise and low speed). The most suitable high lift devices has been selected by additional aerodynamic analyses in low speed conditions (take-off and landing); in detail, the forward flap is a “single fowler” type, which shows a great efficiency despite of a more complex construction.
