The planing hull has been designed both by CFD simulations and test carried out at CNR-INSEAN institute of Rome. The position of the step (redan) and all its design parameters (axial position, thickness, shape) has been optimized by finding the trade-off between take-off performances, pilot’s view and pilot’s comfort. The figure below depicts some qualitative characteristics of the airplane in low speed conditions, with the control surfaces deployed obtained by CFD simulations based on the solution of Navier-Stokes equations.
The results of simulations have been used to determine the aerodynamic loads to be used for structure sizing.
